NEW STATEWIDE ORGANIZATION FORMS TO SUPPORT PEBBLE PROJECT
Truth About Pebble, a non-profit citizens’ organization with board members from across Alaska, was unveiled today with plans to inform and educate Alaskans about the Pebble Project, its potential benefits for the state and the process by which it will be reviewed under Alaskan law.

Representatives of the statewide organization Truth About Pebble today expressed their outright opposition to two pieces of legislation pending in Juneau that are intended to stop the Pebble Project before it even applies for permits under Alaskan law.

We are not un-Alaskan.”

Truth About Pebble On-Line Headquarters Privacy Policy


This Privacy Policy governs the collection, use and treatment of personally identifiable information (“PII”) from users of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.  This Privacy Policy is solely for that online website advocacy system and may be changed without prior notice.  Any such changes will be posted on the Truth About Pebble Online HQ as soon as reasonably possible, but in no event more than 30 days after the effective date of such changes.

1. Information that users voluntarily provide.  Basic PII is gathered and stored when individuals register as users of Truth About Pebble Online HQ and/or participate in the grassroots advocacy initiatives promoted by the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.  A PII will include: a user’s name, address, email address, zip code, website, title, organization affiliation and issue interests.  It is an individual’s choice whether to register as a user of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.  However, if an individual chooses not to register, he/she will not be able to participate in the grassroots advocacy initiatives or use certain other features of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.
 
2. How information that users provide is used. The PII that a user provides is used for a number of purposes including:

  • Allowing Truth About Pebble to bring to user’s attention news and information about the Pebble Mine Project;
  • Providing electronic tools for use in taking actions on issues associated with the Pebble Mine Project;
  • Aiding the improvement and enhancement of the communications, education and tools on this electronic advocacy system.

3. Cookies and Server Site Technologies.  The Truth About Pebble Online HQ may use “cookies” at the user’s discretion.  A “cookie” is a small amount of data that is sent to a user’s web browser from a web server and is stored on that user’s computer hard drive.  Cookies enhance the user’s experience by saving user information.  Cookies also collect non-identifiable information from users of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.  Cookies are utilized on the Truth About Pebble Online HQ for a number of purposes including:

  • Accessing a user’s information when he/she “signs in,” in order to provide that user with customized content;
  • Keeping track of any preferences that a user may specify when utilizing the Truth About Pebble Online HQ;
  • Tracking and reporting the number of people viewing and participating in the grassroots advocacy initiatives organized by Truth About Pebble;
  • Conducting research to improve the information and advocacy opportunities offered by Truth About Pebble.

A user can set his/her browser to notify that user before accepting a cookie or to disable cookies altogether.  Users should contact their software providers if they have questions about how to do this.  If a user disables or rejects cookies, he/she may not be able to access certain portions of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ. 

 

The Truth About Pebble Online HQ may use server site technologies to collect additional non-identifiable information from users. These technologies include small pieces of code placed on a web page to monitor the behavior of, and collect non-identifiable data about, visitors viewing a web page.  For instance, these technologies can be used to count the number of visitors to a particular web page.  Server side technologies may be used on the Truth About Pebble Online HQ, from time to time, for this and other purposes.   

 

4. How will the information be used?  The grassroots advocacy initiatives, advocacy tools and other elements of the Truth About Pebble Online HQ have been developed with, or on behalf of, Truth About Pebble.  The website host will share each user’s PII with Truth About Pebble.  Both Truth About Pebble and the website host shall be bound by this Privacy Policy. If, at the time of registration, a user “opts-in” to receive communications, Truth About Pebble and the website host may share or disclose that PII under the following circumstances:

  • For sale or rental to unaffiliated organizations.  Truth About Pebble will not sell or rent users’ PII for such purposes without providing them with an opportunity to “opt out” of such disclosure.  Users may exercise this option by contacting the website host;
  • If Truth About Pebble or the website host is required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, a subpoena, warrant or other legal process;
  • In the event that all or substantially all assets of Truth About Pebble are transferred or sold, users’ PIIs may be transferred to the acquiring party. If, as a result of such transaction, each user’s PII will be used in a materially different manner than contemplated herein, such change will be posted at the Truth About Pebble Online HQ at least 14 days before it takes effect and each user will be provided with an opportunity to “opt-out” of any such use by editing their individual user profile.    

5. Information users can access.  If a user would like to access, review, correct or update his/her PII, he/she should contact the website host.

 

6. Children.  Truth About Pebble and the website host do not knowingly direct information to, or solicit information from, people less than 18 years of age.  If a user is the parent of a child under the age of 18 who has used the Truth About Pebble Online HQ, the user may contact the website host and that child’s PII will be deleted as soon as is reasonably possible.

 

7. Other Websites. The Truth About Pebble Online HQ may contain links to other outside websites operated by third parties.  If a user accesses other websites through a link on the Truth About Pebble Online HQ, that user should take a few minutes and familiarize himself/herself with the terms of use and privacy policy of each such site visited.  Truth About Pebble and the website host are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of linked. 

 

8. Security.  Truth About Pebble and the website host take the security of users’ PIIs very seriously. The Truth About Pebble Online HQ is operated with a secure data network protected by firewall and password protection systems. Only authorized individuals have access to PIIs.  Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed secure. As a result, while the Truth About Pebble and the website host strive to protect users’ PIIs by following generally accepted industry standards, we cannot guarantee the security of systems that are connected to the Internet nor can we guarantee the security of information transmitted over the Internet.

 

9. Changes to the Privacy Policy.  This Privacy Policy may be updated and changed.  the website host will notify users about significant changes in the way personal information is treated by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in each user’s PII or by placing a prominent notice on the Truth About Pebble Online HQ.
